Floor cleaning pads can be classified by material and colour, and different types of products serve different purposes.
Classification by material
Microfibre pads
The fibres of this material are fine and absorbent, and can absorb dust deep into the crevices. It can be used on wooden floors, tiles, marble and other hard floors, and is suitable for both wet and dry use.
Sponge Pad
This material is soft, flexible and moderately absorbent, and is suitable for use with cleaning agents. It can be used for polishing, waxing or cleaning that requires light friction.
Non-woven Pad
This material is lightweight and breathable, and is mostly disposable to avoid cross-contamination. It can be used for quick cleaning in hospitals, shopping malls and other public places.
Classification by colour
- Blue is used for general cleaning tasks such as offices, shops and schools.
- Red is used in high-risk areas or to deal with special stains, such as industrial premises.
- Yellow is used in warning areas to remind people of safety, e.g. cleaning areas in shopping malls.
- Green is commonly used in the food industry to represent cleanliness and hygiene and to help reduce cross contamination.
